What are the three forces of conflict in the psychodynamic theory according to Freud?
Id – impulsivity, pleasure
Superego – conscience and ideals
Ego – balances Id and Superego
How does the psychodynamic theory evaluate personality?
Motives (fears, wishes, intentions) are the main determinants of personality

- Conscious - rational, goal-directed
- Preconscious - can become conscious
- Unconscious - irrational, associative, repressed
What does Freud’s topographical model propose?
Conflict occurs between different aspects of consciousness

Human behaviour is motivated by two drives:
Aggressive drive – passive-aggressive reactions, physical and verbal aggression
Sexual (libido) drive – pleasure-seeking, sensuality, love as well as desire for intercourse
