Define personality
a characteristic way of thinking, feeling and behaving that makes a person unique
Define humanism
an approach to persoanlity that asssumes that everyone is born with good and will seek to fufill their full potential, given the right conditions
Maslow
exaplains why people are driven by perticular needs at particular times, hirachy of most to leaset processing, people will try and satisfy their most important needs first and move to next
Explain meslows Hierarchy of needs
1) safety needs: security eg, job security, insurance, house Physiological needs: food, water, rest, air, warmth
2) esteem needs: prestige and feeling accomplished eg, attention belongingness/love needs: intimate relationships/friends
3) self-actulisation: achiving ones full potential and creative activities eg, justice, meaning, wisdom
Define psychodynamic theory
our personality develops from our effort to resolve the conflict between our primitive pleasure seeking biological urges/our internalised, socialised reactions to these
Sigmund Freuds theory of superego/ego/ID
1) superego: angel conscious, represents internalized ideal/provides standards for judgment/future aspirations, perfectionist, positive thinking
2) ego: reality, cope with the world
3) ID: devil unconscious, maxtimise pleasure, demands imidiate gradification, unacceptable thoughts, wishes, feelings, memories
