The quality or state of being healthy in body and mind
What does the “health triangle” consist of
Physical, social, and mental/emotional health
Define health
Health is the measure of our body’s efficiency and over all well-being
Define physical health and its components
Refers to the way the body functions and includes exercise, nutrition, sleep, alcohol & drugs, and weight management
Define exercise
The act of using your muscles to stay physically fit. It helps to give you more energy, maintain weight, increase confidence & self esteem, and helps battle control diseases
Define nutrition
Proper balanced meals that are essential in leading a healthy life that create a balance between what we eat and the way our body uses the food for energy and growth
What is the recommended amount of sleep for the average person
At least 8 hours
Why are drugs and alcohol bad
They interfere with messages to the brain and alters perception. They put you at risk of injuries, crashes and fights
Why is it important to maintain a healthy weight + how can you do it
Maintaining a healthy weight decreases your risk of certain diseases such as heart disease and diabetes.
Exercise and proper nutrition helps to maintain healthy weight levels
Define social health
The quality of your relationships with friends, family, and teachers and deals with the way you interact with people in your environment. It includes public health, family relationships and peer reaction
Define public health
Public health includes disease prevention. promoting health through good decision making, and keeping your self & community healthy
Define a healthy family relationship
Supportive, loving, responsible and balanced. Families should work together to eliminate stress and negativity from the home
Why is it important to have a good peer relationship?
Strong and supportive friends increase happiness, confidence, and reduces stess
Define mental health
The ability to recognize reality and cope with the demands of daily life. It includes learning, stress management, and mental illness & disorders
Define learning
The development of skills, behaviors, and knowledge.
