1637, St Giles cathedral riots, the scottish covenanters wanted to fight Charles- this is why he started demanding ship money to fight them back

A

Short parliament- called to get money to fight the scots but charles wouldnt compromise so it was dissolved. WAR WITHOUT PARL BACKING
Treaty of Ripon 1640 meaning that charles would pay the scottish armies living fees while they were in England and Charles needed to find a way to fund this
