PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT Flashcards
is used to reduce
(attenuate) noise reaching the wearer’s
ear, and so reduce the risk of hearing
damage from excessive noise.
Hearing protection
can arise from
regular working in a noisy occupation
or workplace.
Damage from long term exposure
Very high level sounds, such as
fireworks, gunfire or explosions can result
in injury that causes immediate hearing
loss or other hearing damage.
Instantaneous damage
TYPES OF HEARING PROTECTOR
- Earmuffs:
- Helmet mounted earmuffs:
- Earplugs:
- Custom molded earplugs:
have hard plastic cups
with a cushioned seal and a sound absorbing
lining.
Earmuffs
Some earmuffs mount directly onto
helmets.
Helmet mounted earmuffs:
are worn in the ear, normally in the ear canal or over
the ear canal entrance.
Earplugs
can be easier
to fit, but they will perform poorly if the
fitting or moulding is incorrect.
Custom moulded earplugs
protects the human eye
against pollution and infections.

TYPES OF EYE PROTECTORS
- IMPACT EYE PROTECTOR
- OPTICAL RADIATION:
- DUSTS AND GASES:
- DROPLETS AND SPLASHES OF FLUIDS:
- MELTED METALS AND HOT SOLID BODIES:
This type of eye protector is used to protect
the eyes from fragments of solid bodies or
localized objects that varies greatly in size
or quantity that may splash when working.
IMPACT EYE PROTECTOR:
This type of eye protector is used for
radiation related to welding processes,
sunglare, laser radiation) UV radiation that
are contracted at work and may greatly
compromise the health of the worker
OPTICAL RADIATION:
This type of eye protector is used for
particles that may be emitted by coal
dust welding fumes or aerosols of harmful
chemical substances that poses a huge
threat to the health and safety of the
worker.
DUSTS AND GASES:
This type of eye protector is used splatters
that appears while pouring fluids or working
at a particular component of an aircraft
that are susceptible to chemical, fluids and
the like
DROPLETS AND SPLASHES OF FLUIDS:
This type of eye protector is used against
chips of melted metals that might appear
during a metallurgical process.
MELTED METALS AND HOT SOLID BODIES:
is a particular type
of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), used to protect the
individual wearer against inhalation of hazardous substances in the
workplace air.
Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE)
There are two general types of respiratory protective equipment (RPE),
based on the principle by which protection is provided to the user.
The two types are the following:
- Respirators
- Breathing apparatus
(filtering equipment) i.e.: filter, gas filter, combined filter,
filtering half-mask.
Respirators
(isolating equipment) i.e.: self-contained
breathing apparatus compressed line breathing apparatus.
Breathing apparatus
This type of respiratory protector are valved
filtering half masks used to protect against
gases or vapours and particles. These
devices are “disposable” respirators
FILTERING FACEPIECE:
This type of respiratory protector fully
protects the worker against particulates
such as dust particles.
HALF MASK WITH PARTICLE FILTER:
This type of respiratory protector protects
the eyes, nose, mouth and chin, and seals
against the face of the wearer.
FULL-FACE MASK WITH COMPLETE FILTER:
