Why do you want to be in the ADF?
- This country has given me a lot (e.g freedom to play sport, no danger unlike many 3rd world countries, can receive an education), want to give back
- Ability to travel
What do you want to join the Airfoce?
- I have always wanted to be a fixed wing pilot which is why the airforce was attractive for me
- Elite aircraft and the highest possible training means that I can have experiences that aren’t possible in the civilian world
Why do you want to be a pilot?
- My pop was a commercial pilot (although I was too young to know him) and my uncle is an engineer for Virgin which is what sparked my interest in aviation
- I always read the books as a kid and watched the planes
- I had my first flight in the front seat just out of high school and loved every minute of it
- Being able to control a flying object and travel gives me a huge amount of excitement
Have you discussed the ADF with your family?
Yes, I have discussed it at length with them over the process of applying. Although mum was a little hesitant at the beginning, I have their full support as they acknowledge it is a dream career of mine.
They are over the moon every time I get through each stage of the process
What would your parents say about you?
- Hard working
- Focussed (have goals and work towards them without wavering)
- Respectful
- Professional
What do your parents expect from you?
- My parents have never put pressure on me to head certain directions in my career
- In saying that, they have always had an expectation that whichever direction I decide to head career-wise, that I commit to it, work hard and strive to reach my full potential.
- They have always taught me to act in a respectful manner at all times and treat people with care
How did your mother and father influence your life?
- Mum has always been very firm on work ethic, respecting other people and maintaining personal standards
- Dad has always taught me to how to handle myself in situations when things get tough and how to communicate with people in certain situations
- Both parents are extremely supportive and are always there to pick me up when I fall down
Describe your family and childhood
- Brought up in the hills and had freedom and space to explore and be creative
- my brother and sister would always make up games and spend all of our time outside
- family have always been really close and gotten on well
- always played sport both summer and weekend
What kind of person are you?
- I have always been hardworking and focussed
- When I get my mind set on something, I remain focussed
- I am also a team player having played team sports my whole life
- I can relate both back to cricket, hard working to achieve success and reach a high level while also being focussed on the team to achieve group success (played in and won multiple grand finals)
What are your hobbies?
- Flying
- Cricket (prior to stopping in October)
- Golf
- Going to the beach
Where do you see yourself in 15 years?
- I see myself as an instructor at 2OCU teaching the next generation of fighter pilots
- Being surrounded by family and friends to maintain a healthy lifestyle
Do you have high levels of self-discipline and a high energy level?
- Yes, reaching high level cricket squads with a heavy workload while also completing my ATAR studies
- Also at Security Perth, started as a general admin on minimum wage. Worked hard, started sales on the journey and I am now the primary salesman of the business
Who do you admire most (someone you would use a role model)? What do you admire most about them?
- Although it is a clique answer, my Dad
- Raised in a single home with no father
- Worked his way up and is now the general manager of Raine Square in the city
- Gave me the template on how to show resilience and how to work through tough situations
What would your partner or spouse say is your greatest fault?
One of my greatest strengths can also be my weakness. When I get my mind set on something, I work really hard to achieve my goals however can throw my personal balance out.
I can also get too critical when it comes to self assessing my performance on things I do
How will you cope with the loss of privacy?
I have experienced living out of home with new people and have not had any issues.
There was nothing that proved to be an issue and I am generally a very easy going person
