Piston works like a car engine. Pistons driven up and down, connected to rod connected to crankshaft which spins the prop

Turbo prop is closer to a jet engine. Set of fans turning a shaft connected to the propeller. Gearbox allows propeller to spin at a speed to endure it doesn’t stall
