Personal Jurisdiction
Power of the court over a particular person
State law is constitutional if authorizes PJ in 1 of 5 circumstances:
1) Residency: If party is domiciled in state where suit filed, PJ is constitutional
2) Consent: Party can consent to PJ over him (appearance, contract, appointment)
3) Service: D served with process while in a state where suit filed
4) minimum contacts: Need:
a) D has established minimum contacts with forum state+
b) claim against D arises from that contact +
c) PJ wont offend traditional notions of fair play and substantial justice
5) substantial business: high bar to clear as business must be so significant that the company, though not incorporated or headquartered in state, is essentially at home there.
