- Prevents risk of getting an STI
- Prevents becoming emotionally hurt by having sex in a relationship which is not a life-long commitment

- RELIGION- Priests and nuns take a vow of celibacy
- STILL LOOKING- Haven’t found the one
- DIVORCE- Too hurt to enter another relationships or may want to protect children.
- DEATH OF PARTNER- No longer looking for love.
Why do priests take a vow of celibacy?
To remain single to keep them focused in their duties as a priest.

- It will encourage more men to become priests
- Married priests would have more understanding of problems and challenges of family life.
- It would reduce number of priests leaving the priesthood to pursue a relationship

- It means man can dedicate himself totally to his religious work.

-Shows that God is really present in a special way.

-It is a life-long love. The commitment is one that lasts until death ( ‘til death do us part’)

-It is a faithful love, two people are completely faithful to one another.

-Priest or minister will give a short homily or sermon on the importance and purpose of marriage.

-Required by law, couple repeats the marriage vows to each other, (Till death do us part) some make up their own.
What do exchange of ring symbolise?
- Is a symbol of the promise of unending love and exclusive commitment.
What does the Warning involve?
-The priest of minister quotes -
“Man must not separate, then, what God has joined together.”
What does pronouncement involve?
-It states that the couple are now married

- A legal requirement in which a couple (+witness) sign a register. Later they receive a marriage certificate.
What is a sham marriage?
- A marriage for personal convenience other than love.e.g- To allow a person to obtain legal status for the couple to live in the same country.

- Emotional- Marriage provides emotional support and security, binding relationship means they are always there for you.

What is an annulment?
- It is a declaration from the church that what appeared ti be a marriage was not in fact a proper marriage- Never happened in the first place. Not a divorce. - can remarry

- When one/both were forced into it
- When one/both never intended to have children
- Where one refuses to show love or care cuz they are incapable of having a mature relationship.

-Consists of a husband and a wife living in the family home with their children
What is a cohabiting couple family?
-A couple and their children who decide to live together without getting married.

A gay couple, either 2 men or 2 women, and their children.

Includes parents and children as well as other relatives, all living under the same roof.

-Made up of 1 parent and a child/children.

Consists of a parent who decides to marry or live with a new partner (Step/ half siblings)
