Is the christian teaching of punishment relavent? (3 points)
Yes
Old testament was about revenge but in new testament it shows to not take revenge. ‘An eye for and eye’ ‘Do not take revenge on someone who wrongs you.’
- God wants justice not revenge- ‘Do not repay evil for evil. If someone hits you on the right cheek, turn the other.’
- God is ready to forgive anyone who repented their sins
People who break the law need help… 3 points

- To realise the consequences of what they did and serve justice to their victims

- God determines when life begins and ends naturally- Gods plan
- God is the creator and makes human beings in his image and likeness

- Society has no right to judge when someone’s life should end

- Under severe conditions some believe people that criminals should get the death penalty organised wrongly by judgement of just law system

Is the christian teaching for punishment relevant?
YES
- Punishment is supported in the means of revenge from the old testament but in new testament Jesus quotes to not take revenge. Teaching shows us we should not take revenge.
- Teachings from the church show us that there are alternatives to punishment to help the individual morally learn rather than endure harmful revenge- Community service- justice is important to God ‘let justice roll on like a river.’
- Jesus teaches that God is ready to forgive anyone who repented of their sins
