Based on scripture homosexuals cannot be approved of, however they must be treated with respect, compassion and sensitivity
Roman Catholic-They should not be discriminated against
Church of Ireland-“incompatible with scripture” and most are opposed to homosexuality. “A man must not lie with a man”
Presbyterian Church-young people can be confused

Solidify their relationship
They believe it is the bedrock of a strong society

What does the church say about marriage?
Sacred-RC church state that “god himself is the author of marriage
Permanent-Methodist church describe marriage as a “life-long Union in body,mind and spirit, of one man and one woman”
Exclusive-Presbyterian church describes marriage as a “life-long partnership of a man with absolute faithfulness the one to the other”
Pro-creation if children-The church of Ireland suggests “one of the functions of marriage is to provide a stable family unit”
Reasons FOR Clergy marrying
Protestant clergy are able to marry and seem to be able to fulfill their role
There is a shortage of men entering priesthood. This might change if they were allowed to marry
They may find it easier to relate to the married members of the congregations and be able to offer marital advice
God created Eve because he saw that it wasn’t good for a man to be alone
Reasons AGAINST Clergy marrying
Paul recommended single life because it allows people to focus more on their relationship with God as family can be distracting
Sacrificing marriage demonstrates true commitment to God
Catholic services run much more frequently so it wouldn’t be fair on the family of the priest if he is always busy
It safeguards the priest against divorce
What is the definition of a family and what different types are there?
A family is a group of people, mainly made up of adults and children, who live together.
Nuclear-Consists of husband and wife living with children in a family home
Cohabiting couple-Couple and children live together but couple are not married
Lone parent-Made up of one parent and child/children
Blended/reconstituted-Parent who decides to marry or live with a new partner and combine their two families
Same sex couples-Consists if same sex couple and their children
Extended or multi-family-Includes parents and children as well as other relatives all living under the same roof
‘Marriage is a life long partnership, with faithfulness, one to the other’ do you agree or disagree
-marriage is the bedrock of a strong society
-loyalty ensures strong values are held
-Within Christian wedding vows, couples are encouraged to confess promise ‘till death do us part’
-faithfulness is communicated in the vow ‘in sickness and health’
-‘foresaking all others’ encourages a couple to prioritise one another.
-marriage seen as best place to raise a family
Who within today’s society needs especially well represented?
Ageism-babies and children are vulnerable and have limited vocabulary to articulate for themselves.
Racism-minority ethnic group-small community, poor English, victims of hate crimes and racism
Ableism-Disabled may not be able to advocate (represent) for themselves
Ageist-old/elderly can be ill or confused
Refugees-access to language, currency rights and education
How do some people experience gender inequality?
In the workplace-gender pay gap, men often get promoted over women
In sport-female sport does not get as much coverage or attention as male sport, sponsorship is often directed towards men’s teams
In house life-expectation of men to ‘work’, whilst women stay at home and raise family
School-sexist-favouritism of one gender over the other
Hospitals-razors for men (if overnight.) No period products for women-bring your own
Northern Ireland is a racist country. Why is this the case?
Small Island, small mindset - close minded
Not particularly diverse - quite secluded from other countries
Territorial and proud of our religious heritage - aftermath of the Troubles
Ignorant - lack of knowledge
Xenophobic - ‘fear’ of foreigners —> ‘change’ the culture —> convert the people —> terrorists?
Causes of poverty?
Redundancy, unemployment or low-paying job
Cost of living - people can no longer afford to live —> fuel poverty or digital poverty
Generational Poverty - born into a poor family
Addictions (and debt)
Lack of aspirations - ‘no hope’ for employment or to break poverty cycle
Consequences of poverty?
Decisions about bills/food/heat
Illness- depression, anxiety, Agra phobia
Homelessness - eviction
Criminality - life of crime to pay bills (theft)
Suicidal thoughts - ‘given up’
