What are the causes of fainting?
•prolonged sitting/standing w/locked legs
•hunger/dehydration
•nausea
•sudden onset of extreme emotions
•experience or observation of unpleasant or painful stimuli
-watching or experiencing medical procedure
-overheading or shortness of breath
-watching someone in extreme pain
-sight of blood
Signs and symptoms of fainting
- weakness/lightheaded
- chest discomfort
- nausea/sweating
- sensitivity to light
- blurry vision
- ringing in the ears
What you should do to avoid fainting
- sit down immediately
- remain properly hydrated
- eat food/snacks
- when sitting cross your legs
- when standing tighten leg muscles
- remain aware of potential exposure to trigger stimuli
- know how to check in with yourself and monitor your internal state

- sign in on the designated time sheet in the department binder
- check in with the supervisor,charge nurse,team lead
- check in with the intern going off shift
