Personal Flashcards
What got you into wanting to be a pilot?
What got you into wanting to be a pilot?
+Always wanted to be a pilot from the time I was a child.
+I recalled looking into a cockpit and seeing the cluster of clocks, it was always fascination and even as I grew up the fascination remained
+Coming from a family of medics I wanted to go along to make my parents proud and so decided to do dentistry. In the last year, I then decided to have my first lesion and it was absolutely amazing (Name of plane; Cessna Skyhawk -single engine).
+It was so fascinating; I was like a kid in a candy shop!
+I then decided that this is truly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
+I then sat down with my parents in the last couple months and told them I wanted to put dentistry on hold and pursue my true dream which is to become a pilot.
+I then attended the last pilot careers live and visited (star borne for the day) and I was really impressed.
+So, my continued fascination as a child and the first practice flight was what it took for me to realise this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life!

What is your greatest accomplishment?
+coming from a family of medical background… accepted into dental school
+dentistry is a very intense and difficult field of education to get into
+making parents proud- something i held true value to
+that being said, wasnt my dream… had a passion for aviation
+flip side, this interview
+left a secure education, 3 years left, masters, 6 figure salary
+to leaving that to pursue my true passion, not knowing if ill get in piloting school
+its a passion and another achievement i would like to become my greatest accomplish
When have you showed leadership?
+at uni i was the captain of my basketball team and i realised that the team had to work on their shooting as they were missing a lot of their shots as well as taking fewer shots per game
+as team captain i want the best for my team, in order for us to excell and win more games over all
+decided to take action and implemented extra team practises, daily
+after discussing my idea with the team i asked for each person to highlight which area of their shooting they’d like to work on
+from that, each practise we focused on a different area of shooting
+monday- an hour of working on our lay ups, wednesday- free throws, friday- mid range shooting
+leads us up to saturday which was our usual practice day
+after a month of this change to their practice schedule, we noticed a progression in the shots made by each individual, showing a clear boost of confidence due to the extra team practices
+moving forward, this allowed us to win more games and ultimately winning the uni tournament
+reflection, used the strong points, the strengths of each of the players and allowed them to play in areas which made the team more effieicnet, and allowing us to win games
When have you showed teamwork?
+im in a music band at church and i realised that the band had to work on how well they sound as a collective
+the members of this band were used to playing by themselves and not with others, so there were complications with ego issues and creative preferences of the band members, as well as role ambiguity
+i realised that in order for us to work together to play music as a team, we’d have to understand our role as a member of the band as well as having more of an understanding of each other and our creative preferences
+i decided one of the ways we could work on this was by implementing two additional rehearsal sessions
+one focusing on the their individual sections of the song
+second practise understanding each others creative preferences by allowing them to choose a song to work on
+as a result of this, the members were able to understand their roles in different songs as well as having a move open mind about each others musical style
+proves what team work can accomplish
When have you had to make a difficult decision?
+Leaving dentistry to apply for a piloting school
+There were people who told me that it was a bad idea to leave dentistry for a piloting career
+I was already in a secure education, 3 years left, masters, 6 figure salary
+To not knowing if I would get into a school
+Although there were many negatives of why I shouldnt have left, I was only focused on the positives of being able to have taken the right steps to achieve my future career as now im closer to my dream than ever before
+throughout this career as a pilot you’ll have to make difficult decision… as a first officer you’ll need to make quick decisions as things change e.g. if the weather changes, they may need to help the captain make important flight decisions
+explaining to parents how to convert from dentistry to piloting
When have you taken feedback/criticism well?
+university i had to balance my practical subjects, such as dental prosthetics with my theory based subjects such as anatomy
+focusing too much on practical work a* and putting less time into my anatomy theory which was at a C grade but could have been a higher grade if more time was dedicated towards it
+from that feedback, i realised i neede to put more time towards my natomy studies
+as i was achieving a high grade in prosth. i halved the studying time (3 to 1.5) and i put it towards anatomy
+over time, able to achieve a B grade in my anatomy from recieving the feedback from my professor and taking action and the necessary changes to my work, whilst also maintaining the A grade from my prosthetics
+always valued that teacher for the feedback he provided, as he allowed me to realise the importance of time management
When have you had to manage a big work load?
+during my first year of uni I was overwhelmed with the amount of subjects I had to study (list them)
+we had to study quite intensely as we needed to know our information in detail to pass
+havent had that amount of intense workload coming from sixth form and secondary (amount of subjects)
+dealt with this by dedicating 3 hrs a day to a specific subject
+monday after uni 3 hrs, tuesday - uni all day so study in morning
+saturdays- overview of what i studied throughout the week, adding any info i may not understand
+as a result, it has now allowed to manage my workload efficiently- from b’s to a’s
+ground school intense for the 6 month period, bc of experiences its given me confidence w/ workload
When have you showed good communication skills?
+leader of a study group of 8 students
+ensure that we fostered open communication amongst when we’re not in class
+whatsapp groupchat for us
+this was made for daily check ins to ensure everyone is fine
+to outline the clear expectations when we meet and what we will discuss to avoid wasting time
+ask for feedback after every meeting or lesson
+as a result we avoided problems of misunderstanding whether it was from our lesson allowed us to work more effectively as a team as we were able to communicate openly each other which helped to handing in group work before deadlines and to a higher standard
