Q

How can a pilot give their passengers a better experience?

A

+ Before the flight, provide your passengers with a safety briefing to help manage their expectations and save them putting pressure on you when in the air.
+In addition to the standard safety briefing
+In case the flight should be delayed it could be useful to
+Advise the passengers, to create an environment where passengers feel cared for and respected, even in the face of unexpected disruptions.

Q

Which airline do you want to fly with and why?

A

+It has always been a dream of mine to proudly fly for BA,
+As a kid, that was the first plane I stepped foot on, and straight away greeted by one of the pilots and I was lucky enough to be shown around the cockpit
+I’ve always found that they held their pilots with integrity
+Being British myself, I feel as though I’ll be doing my nation proud for flying for them
+Especially being black, unrepresented in the pilot industry of less than 5% of pilot being black
+I like how BA value the importance of representation at all levels and to ensure diversity in their industry
This is seen by their Fantasy Wings programme
+Which is designed to increase the diversity and representation in the Airline Pilot and Aviation Industry

Q

What can you see yourself doing in 5-10 years?

A

+I expect to see myself becoming an integral part of the BA.
+I see myself contributing to the growth and success of the company.
+I would like to ensure the company become more successful by been completely dedicated to it
To do so, I would continue to develop my skills and knowledge by moving from first officer to captain and by putting in the required hours needed.
But most importantly: -
I also plan on helping under privilege kids in school, by having talks with them and making them more interested and excited in piloting as a career.
For example- in the UK: only about 4.9% of females are pilots, regarding blacks’ people it’s even less, representing 2.2%.
My gold is to change this by having school talks and discussing career paths at an early stage with young people.

Q

Current struggles in aviation?

A

1) Russia-Ukraine war has created various no-fly zones which impacts the airlines financially as they’re not able to fly their usual routes, which would increase the amount of time it takes for flights to get to their destination, meaning they’re burning more fuel along the way
As a result of this war, the increase of fuel cost has only worsened, as there are less fuel exports from Russia
more fuel efficient engines- a350- 17 hours without refueling
more fuel efficient
cost more for flight tickets- not good for passengers
a350 as theyre more fuel efficient 17 hours without refueling- this is the direction we need to take- fuel efficient to keep costs at bay- alternative for of energy
electricity and hydrogen- velis electro- fully electric

Q

What does the first officer do when they arrive at the airport?

A

+Once they arrive at the airport they make way to the crew report building.
+They will meet with the Captain, print off all the required paperwork, discuss for eg: fuel load, routing, weather, meet with and brief the cabin crew
+After, they would clear security
+Arrive on aircraft and complete security checks, pre flight checks, external walk around, brief each other, call for clearance and aim to push on time
+Push back, start engines and taxi towards the take off runway.
