See institutions and opportunities in all areas that interest me inc strong centres for Onc & Paeds
Why academic medicine?
Being a doctor is one of the best jobs in the world
However, don’t always get the opportunity to influence a larger group of patients
Research allows you to do this, and improve outcomes
How will this contribute to your overall career plans and future steps?`
Give key foundation skills in academic medicine, inc research, teaching and leadership
Plan to apply for SCREDS or ACF pathway, hopefully leading onto a clinical lectureship/mixed clinical and academic career
What do you want to achieve during your research block?
Ideally would like to do a project within Paeds, Oncology or Genetics
Achieve - important to set SMART goals - especially a project which is realistic to complete in the time-frame and relevant to clinical practice
Organisation is key - if got everything in place beforehand like clear plan, caldicott/ethics approval, more likely to be achievable in the time period
