Person Centered Therapy Flashcards
Who is the major contributor to Person-Centred Therapy?
Carl Rogers!
PCT is based on the concepts from this kind of psychology.
Humanisitic
Rogers had 3 basic assumptions. They are:
- People are essentially trustworthy.
- People have a vast potential for understanding themselves and resolving their own problems without direct intervention.
- People are capable of self-directed growth if they are involved with a therapeutic relationship.
A big part of PCT is:
Trust - A basic sense of trust in the client’s ability to move forward in a constructive manner if the appropriate conditions fostering growth are present.
Rogers believed that at the core of each person was a:
Trustworty
Positive Centre.
Three therapist attributes create a growth-promoting climate. They are:
1-Congruence
2-Unconditional Positive Regard
3-Accurate empathetic understanding
It was believed if these attributes were communicated by therapist the client would be:

Rogers believed that people will move toward health if:
The way seems open for them to do so
The goals of counselling are to:
1-Set the client free
2-Create those conditions that will enable them to engage in meaningful self-exploration.
This guy created the Hierarchy of Needs.
