peritoneum Flashcards
what is the peritoneum
The peritoneum is the serous membrane forming the lining of the abdominal cavity
what are the 2 layers of the peritoneum
- outer layer = parietal peritoneum and is attached to the abdominal wall
- inner layer = visceral peritoneum and is wrapped around the internal organs that are located on the inside of the intraperitoneal cavity
what is the mesentery
The membrane that attaches the intestines to the wall of the abdomen and maintains their position in the abdominal cavity to supply them with blood vessels, nerves, and lymphatics.
what is the greater omentum
a large fold of visceral peritoneum that hangs down from the stomach
what are the two main regions of the peritoneum
greater sac and the lesser sac
what connects the 2 regions of the peritoneum
epiploic foramen - is a passage between the greater sac (peritoneal cavity proper) and the lesser sac (omental bursa), allowing communication between these two spaces.
what is the lesser sac divided into
the gastrohepatic omenta and the gastrocolic omenta
what is the gastrohepatic momentum attached to
the lesser curvature of the stomach and the liver
what is the gastrocolic momentum attached to
hangs from the greater curvature of the stomach and loops down infant of the intestines before coming up to attach to the transverse colon
what are the intraperiotneal structures (SALTD SPRSS)
Stomach Appendix Liver Transverse colon Duodenum
Small intestine Pancreas (tail) Rectum (upper 3rd) Spleen Sigmoid colon
what are retroperitoneal structures (SAD PUCKER)
S suprarenal glands
A orta
D uodenum (except the proximal 2ch, the duodenal cap)
P pancreas U reters C olon K kidneys E oesophagus R ectum
what are omentum
omenta are sheets of visceral peritoneum that extend from the stomach and proximal part of the duodenum to other abdominal organs
what are peritoneal ligaments
double fold of peritoneum that connects the viscera together or connects viscera to the abdominal wall
what are the foregut organs
oesophagus, stomach, pancreas, liver, gallbladder and the duodenum (proximal to the entrance of the common bile duct).
what are the midgut organs
duodenum (distal to the entrance of the common bile duct) to the junction of the proximal two thirds of the transverse colon with the distal third.
