Hypotension during the third trimester
A nurse instructs their patient to close their fist and proceeds to inhibit blood flow by pushing on their radial and ulnar arteries. The patient is asking why the nurse is doing this and how they should respond.
“This is the Allen’s test, it is used to test for any occlusions in the arteries in your hand”
A charge nurse asks a student nurse why they are flexing their patient’s knee and forcibly and abruptly dorsiflexing their ankle. How should the nurse respond?
“You are testing for Homan’s Sign, which would determine if the client has DVT”
