peripheral nervous system Flashcards
1
Q
PNS
A
- consists of the tissue outside the CNS
- 12 pairs of cranial nerves
- 31 pairs of spinal nerves
- sensory function (collects information from the receptors and transmits them along afferent neurons to the CNS)
- motor function (transmits impulses from CNS by efferent neurons to bring about an appropriate response)
2
Q
division
A
- somatic NS (conducts impulses from CNS controlling voluntary movement)
- autonomic NS (conducts impulses from CNS controlling involuntary muscles and glands)
- autonoomic SN (sympathetic = fright or flight adrenalin ; parasympathetic = rest and digest - speeds up or slows down heart and respitory, adjusts blood pressure and body temp. etc…)
