When does the preoperative phase begin?
When patient is identified as a candidate for surgery or procedure.
What happens during the preoperative phase?
Assessed and prepared for surgery, labs and medications
When does the intraoperative phase begin?
Surgical intervention
What are the symptoms of malignant hyperthermia?
High fever, tachycardia, muscle rigidity
How is malignant hyperthermia treated?
Dantrolene
What is the period of time in which surgical site infections can occur?
DOS (day of surgery) - Day 30 Post-op

Aldrete Score - 8 (or more) out of 10.
What is a Class I surgical wound?
Clean - Uninfected operative wound made under ideal conditions
What is a Class II surgical wound?
Clean contaminated - Entrance into mucosalized tissue under controlled conditions
What is a Class III surgical wound?
Contaminated - open or fresh accidental wound
What is a Class IV surgical wound?
Dirty, infected - old traumatic wounds. Existing clinical infection or purulence. Environmental debris
What is a pulse deficit and what can it indicate?
Difference between apical and radial pulse. Could indicate dysrhythmias
