How odes periodisation benefit sports performance?
-Allows athlete to peak at the right time
-Reduces the risk of injury
-Performer has achievable goal so more likely to achieve long term goal
-Flexibility to adjust/ re-plan training if there is an injury
-Allows for organised tapering in competition phase
-Training is organised and specific allowing training to be split into manageable blocks
What are the timings and aims of Prepartory phase?
-6-12 weeks before competition
1. general conditioning eg. aerobic capacity
2. sport-specific skills and drills (eg. gymnastics doing flic drills)
What are the timings and aims of Transition phase?
-4-6 weeks after end of season
-Active rest and recovery
-Low-intensity aerobic work, non-sport specific (eg. footballer takes part in swimming)
