Periodic Table Flashcards
Metals
Shiny, conduct electricity well, malleable and ductile
Nonmetals
Dull, poor conductors of electricity and are brittle (right side of periodic table)
Metalloids
Posses both nonmetal and metal and found on stair-step pattern starting with Boron
Ionic radius
Size of charges species
Cations are generally smaller than their corresponding neutral atom
Anions are generally larger than their corresponding neutral atom
Atomic radius
Everything increase from left to right except atomic radius which decreases
Ionization energy
Electron affinity
Electronegativity
Amount of energy necessary to remove an electron from the valence shell of a gaseous species
Amount of energy released when a gaseous species gains an electron in its valence shell
Measure of the attractive force of nucleus for the electrons within a bond
