What are metal characteristics?
Lustrous, solid at room temperature (except mercury), conducts electricity and heat, malleable and ductile.
What are non-metal characteristics?
Dull, some are solid, many are gases one is liquid (bromine), insulators, brittle, not malleable or ductile.
Metalloids
Have some metal like properties and some non-metal properties.
Malleable
Can be flattened into sheets, e.g aluminum foil
Ductile
Can be stretched into wires
Brittle
Break easily
What is a metalloid?
Metalloid (semi-metal) is an element between metal and non-metal.
How do you find the number of protons in an element?
Atomic number of an element is the same number of protons that the atom contains.
How do you find the number of electrons in an element?
Atomic number of an element is the same number of electrons that the atom contains.
How do you find the number of neutrons in an element?
Atomic mass (rounded) - Atomic number
