Periodic Properties Flashcards
Alkali Earth Metals
Metals, Softer tha Group 1 and reactive.
Transition Metals
Metals, solid at standard temperature and pressure except hgg, shiny, great heat and electricity conductors, malleable and ductile.
Periodic Properties
Atomic Number (Z), Atomic Radius, Metallic Character, Electronegativity.
Atomic Number (Z)
Number of protons in the nucleus which gives identity to each element. Left-Right Up-Down.
Electronegativity
The force with which an atom pulls electrons towards itself.
Metallic Character
Chemical and physical characteristics associated with metals. Left-Right Down.
Atomic Radius
Distance between the nucleus and the farthest electron. Left-Right Up-Down.
Ionization energy
Energy needed to take away an electron from a neutral atom.
Electro-Affinity
Energy consumed or liberated when a neutral atom gains an electron.
