Perio Classifications Flashcards

1
Q

Describe how you would assess a patient with a BPE of 1?

A

(Band completely visible with Bleeding and plaque present)

Assess the extent of bleeding
< 10% = clinical gingival health
10-30% = Localised gingivitis
> 30% = generalised gingivitis

Q

Describe how you would assess a patient with a BPE of 2?

A

(Band completely visible with Bleeding and plaque retentive factors)

Assess the extent of bleeding
< 10% = clinical gingival health
10-30% = Localised gingivitis
> 30% = generalised gingivitis

and diagnosis should comment on plaque retentive factors present

3
Q

Describe how you would assess a patient with a BPE of 3?

A

(Band partially visible)

Take radiographs

start initial therapy and reassess after 3 months

After 3 months take a localised 6ppc

Pockets < 4mm and no radiographic signs on perio bone loss = treat as you would code 0,1,2

Pockets ≥ 4mm with radiographic signs of perio bone loss = treat as you would code 4

Q

Describe how you would assess a patient with a BPE of 4?

A

(Band disappears)

Take radiographs

GDH say Start treatment and do a 6ppc for whole mouth post treatment

assess if patient has:
Molar incisor pattern
Localised perio = <30%
Generalised perio = ≥ 30%
