Perio Flashcards
The gingival fiber most associated with relapse is:
Supracrestal
CSF = supracrestal fiberotomy reduces rotation relapse
Prostaglandins
Pg: produce pain (*reduces pain threshold), promote bone breakdown/OTM (by *stimulating osteoclast production)
Associated with (i.e., arachodonic acid pathway activated by):
IL-1, IL-6
IFN-gamma
TNF-alpha
BMP
NSAIDs inhibit tooth movement by inhibiting Pg.
• High doses will impede OTM.
• Low doses will have little or no inhibiting effect on OTM
Decreased Pg raises pain threshold
Pg promotes breakdown of bone -> promotes tooth movement. Perio patients with gingival inflammation have greater breakdown of bones due to higher Pg levels. Pg: stimulate osteoclast production!
NOT:
Neocytokines
