Anatomy Flashcards
Pterygopalatine fossa
Contents:
V2 maxillary
Maxillary artery & sphenopalatine artery going to nose
Pterygopalatine ganglion
Nerve and artery of pterygoid canal pass through *foramen lacerum
Borders:
Anterior: mx tuberosity
Posterior: lateral pterygoid plate
Separates maxillary and sphenoid bones
Medial pterygoid
Lateral pterygoid
Medial pterygoid superior head: mx tuberosity
Medial pterygoid deep head: medial of lateral pterygoid
Lateral pterygoid superior head: greater wing of sphenoid
Lateral pterygoid deep head: lateral of lateral pterygoid
Pterygoid is part of the sphenoid.
Posterior to anterior:
Pterygoid plate - posterior pterygomaxillary suture - anterior pterygomaxillary fissure - mx tuberosity
Jugal point is intersection of:
Mx tubersity and zygomatic buttress
Bolton
Basion
Opisthion
Broadbent
Bolton: highest point on occipital condyle
Basion: anterior inferior border of foramen magnum
Opisthion: posterior inferior border of foramen magnum. Opisthion is NOT a bilateral structure.
Broadbent: intersection of line between N-Ba and sella perpendicular (fyi Facial Axis is NBa-PtGn)
The point most closesly associated with Opisthion: Bolton pt (closer than Basion)
Sinus drainage: Superior meatus Middle meatus Inferior meatus Sphenoethmoidal recess
Superior meatus: posterior ethmoid
Middle meatus: frontal, anterior ethmoid, maxillary
Inferior meatus: nasolacrimal duct
Sphenoethmoidal recess: sphenoid
