Perimeter and Area Flashcards
What is the Perimeter of a shape?
Perimeter is the total length of the sides of a 2D shape. It is measured in cm or any other form of measurement.
What is the area of a shape?
Area is the amount of space taken up by a 2D shape or surface. It is measured in cm² or any other form of measurement²
How do you find the area of a Rectangle?
Rectangle area is the length multiplied by the width.
Rectangle area = L x W
How do you find the area of a Triangle?
The area of a triangle is the base multiplied by the height divided by 2. This is because if you put two identical triangles together they will form a rectangle.
Triangle area = (b x h) / 2
How do you find the area of a Parallelogram?
The area of a Parallelogram is the base multiplied by the height. This is because if you take the overhang of parallelogram on one side and put it on the other side you make a rectangle.
Area of Parallelogram = b x h
How do you find the area of a trapezium?
The are of a Trapezium is length of the top and bottom sides added together multiplied by the height and then halved (or halved then multiplied by height).
Area of Trapezium = h(top + bottom)/2
What is Circumference?
Circumference is exactly like perimeter except it is for circles.
How do you find the Circumference of a circle?
The circumference of a circle is the diameter of the circle multiplied by π.
Circumference of circle = πd
How do you find the area of a circle?
The area of a circle is the radius squared then multiplied by π.
Area of circle = πr²
