Volume and Surface Area Flashcards
What is volume?
Volume is a measure of the amount of 3d space inside an object.
What is surface Area
Surface area is the sum of the areas of all faces on a 3D shape.
How do you find the volume of cuboid?
Volume of a Cuboid = Length x Height x Width
What is a prism?
A prism is a type of 3D shape with flat sides. It has two ends that are the same shape and size. It has the same cross-section all along the shape from end to end; that means if you cut through it you would see the same 2D shape as on either end.
How do you find the Volume of a prism?
Volume of a prism = cross-section area x length.
How do you find that volume of a cylinder?
The volume of a cylinder is the area of the circle on the end of the cylinder(cross-section) multiplied by the height.
Volume of a cylinder = Cross-section area x height or πr²h
How do you find the surface area of a cylinder?
The surface area of a cylinder is the area of both ends add the circumference of the cross-section multiplied by the height.
Surface area of a cylinder = 2 x cross-section area + circumference of end x height or πd +2πr²
How to find the Surface Area of a prism?
Method 1: Add up the areas of all the faces.
Method 2: Find the area of the cross-section and multiply by 2. Then find the perimeter of the cross-section and multiply by the length.
