Renal failure
Dressler Syndrome
Post MI
Hypothyroidism
Malignancy
Radiotherapy
What are symptoms?
Pleuritic chest pain
Worse on lying down, relieved by leaning forwards
Flu like symptoms
Pericardial rub on examination
What investigations are required?
ECG- global saddle shaped ST elevation
PR depression
What is the management?
1) NSAIDs and colchicine
2) Avoid strenuous activity
3) Treat underlying cause
4) only admit if elevated trop or fever >38
What are causes of myocarditis?
Viral- coxsackie B, HIV
Bacterial- Diphtheria, clostridium
Autoimmune disease- SLE
What are symptoms of myocarditis?
History of viral symptoms
Chest pain
SoB
Arrythmias/palpitations
What investigations are needed for myocarditis?
ECG- ST elevation, T wave inversion
Elevated CRP and trop
What is the management?
Treat cause and supportive
Can cause
- dilated cardiomyopathy
Arrhythmias
Heart Failure
