Chest pain- pleuritic, relieved sitting forward
Non-productive cough, dyspnoea, flu-like symptoms
Pericardial rub
Tachypnoea
Tachycardia

Viral- coxsackie
TB
Uraemia (causes fibrinous pericarditis)
Trauma
Post MI (Dressler’s)
Connective tissue disease
Hypothyroidism
Malignancy
ECG changes
Widespread changes
Saddle shaped ST elecation
PR depression- most specific ECG marker
Investigations
ECG
Transthoracic echocardiography
Management of acute pericarditis
Treat underlying cause
NSAIDs and colchicine
Causes of constrictive pericarditis
Any cause of pericarditis
Particularly TB
Features of constrictive pericarditis
Dyspnoea
Right heart failure
JVP shows prominent x and y descent
Pericardial knock (loud S3)
Kussmaul’s sign positive
Kussmaul’s sign
Paradoxical rise in jugular venous pressure on inspiration
Right heart failure signs
Elevated JVP
Ascites
Oedema
Hepatomegaly
CXR findings
Pericardial calcification
