What is the role of odontoblasts?
Responsible for the formation of dentine
Secretes secondary and tertiary reactionary dentine

A Pulp polyp
(chronic hyperplastic pulpitis)
What is pulpitis in terms of inflammation
Localised inflammation in relation to carious dentine (before bacteria reaches pulp)
What does suppartion mean?
Production of pus
What is chronic hyperplastic pulpitis (pulp polyp) caused by?
Granulation tissue that grows out of the pulp chamber
What teeth are affected by chronic hyperplastic pulpitis?
Deciduous teeth or recently erupted molars with:
* Wide open caries
* Good vascular supply
What occurs to surrounding bone of a tooth with chronic apical periodontitis?
Also called periapical granuloma
Osteoclast resorption of surrounding bone
What are the differences between acute and chronic periapical periodontits radiographically?
Acute has no radiolucency at apex but widening of PDL on a radiograph
How may a tooth feel to a patient with acute periapical periodontitis?
May feel elevated
