Altitude training (less oxygen) pros + cons

A

PRO: Improves amount of oxygen your body can take in and thereby increasing the ability of blood to transport oxygen to working muscles and tissues. + increases ventilation, heart rate, decreased stroke and plasma volume

CON: Unaffordable or inaccessible (distance) for some athletes

Hypoxic training

A
  • Variation to altitude training, and both are low oxygen environments
  • Hypoxic training at sea level uses hypoxic chambers, houses or tents
  • Not as effective as ‘natural’ high altitude training

PROS: fair and accessible to everyone and more practical
CONS: holding breath activities can be potentially dangerous
