Performance characteristics of polymer-based sheet and film Flashcards
What is a polymer film?
Usually very thin and flexible
What is a polymer sheet?
Polymer sheet is thicker than film and available is stock sheets or varying thickness
What is foam board?
Two outer layers of card with a foam middle core
What is foamboard used for?
Mood boars packaging, presentation boards, modelling
What is fluted PP sheet?
Extruded sheet with integral ‘flutes’ or corrogations. Lightweight and easily bent along the flutes
What are the uses of fluted PP sheet?
Signs, storage boxes, portfolio cases, models
What is a translucent PP sheet?
Tough polymer sheet. Can be molded millions of times. Virtually impossible to tear, water resistant
What are the uses of translucent PP sheets?
Packaging products, folders, boxes
What is Styrofoam?
Dense, closed-cell form. Can be cut, shaped and sanded with standard workshop tools
What are the uses of Styrofoam?
Product modelling, formers for moulding and laminating
What is LDPE?
Low density polyethylene is taught, available in thin sheet form, transparent, good chemical resistance, flexible
What are the uses of LDPE?
Food wrapping, air pillow packaging, bubble wrap, carrier bags
What is plastazote foam?
Closed-cell polyethylene foam, tough, flexible, good impact resistance, impermeable to liquids
What are the uses of plastazote?
Protective packaging, swimming floats, gym and exercise mats, sound and pipe insulation, stage props
What is cellulose acetate?
Transparent, tough, naturally biodegrades
