Performance characteristics of paper and boards Flashcards
What are the standard sizes of paper?
Are from A0 to A8, each A size is half the size of the previous.
What do commercial printers work with?
They work with raw formats of paper which are slightly larger than standard A sizes and allow for any colour bleeding from printing
What happens to paper after it is printed?
Papers are trimmed to size after they have been printed
How is paper thickness measured?
In grams per square metre (gsm), the lower the gsm, the more lightweight the paper, making it easier to cut and score
What is a compliant material?
They can be scored, folded and cut with basic tooling to form items
How is paper produced?
- original source of paper is wood Pulp (grey in colour)
- bleaches are added during manufacture to make paper whiter
Why can paper be recycled?
Since they come from a natural source meaning they can biodegrade
