Performance Flashcards
What Three density air molecules contributes to ?
- The production of lift and drag
- The combustion of fuel to produce power
- The generation of thrust by the spinning propeller
What is Air density determined by?
The pressure of the air
- when air pressure is reduced , the air molecules move further apart (density drops).
- air pressure drops with increased height. ( higher you fly less dense air)
The temperature of the air
- Air temperature is increased , density drops
How will performance be affected when its low air density compared to high air density?
Low air density ( hot and high) , performance reduced
High air density (low and cold), performance is enhanced.
ISA
International Standard Atmosphere
- Sea-level pressure in ISA is 1013 hectopascals (hp) and the sea-level temperature is 15°C
- Pressure drops at 1hpa for every 30 ft of height increase
- Temperature drops at 2°C for each 1000ft of height increase
Pressure Height
The height in the standard atmosphere where the pressure is equal to the air in your current environment
- Height above the 1013 pressure level.
( TO find the PH, use the knob to set 1013 on sub scale and the altimeter will read PH )
