What is the name given to the theory of how objects are organised and perceived?
Gestalt theory
What is bottom-up processing?
The element of processing that depends directly on external stimuli
What is top-down processing
Uses information gleaned from previous experience
What is the name given to being influenced by what we expect to see or hear?
“Expectancy” or “perpetual set”
What is visual constancy?
The process of recognising familiar objects in unfamiliar conditions
What are the primary drivers of depth perception?
Size and clarity of the objects. Misty conditions will make objects seem further away than they really are.
How are taxiing speeds affected when a pilot converts to a big aeroplane?
Typically will taxi too fast because of the apparent slow relative movement of the objects.
What is expectancy?
Pre-disposition to perceive particular features of a stimulus.
