What is perception?
The cognitive process of how data is interpreted
What is sensation?
The physical process of collecting information from our environment through our sense organs
What is a geometric illusion?
When one line or another is distorted and we get it wrong in our mind
What is a ambiguous figures illusion?
A picture that can be seen more than one way
What are fiction illusions?
Seeing something that isn’t actually there
What is depth perception?
The ability of our brain and eyes to add a third dimension to everything we see
What is the core theory and what does it mean?
The constructivist theory says we base what the world looks like on past experience
What is top-down processing?
When the brain is sorting out info it makes use of past experience
What is perceptual set?
A tendency to perceive something in line with what you expect from past experience
Three criticisms of constructivist theory
People see world similarly with different past experience
Newborn babies see world with no experience
