Concept is grouped into category based on degree of similarity to prototype, ideal or average model based on what has been previously encountered

concept placed into category based on general idea constructed from experience. Cannot be described in 3-4 words but require longer more detailed explanation as to why it fits

States that concepts are placed into categories based on defining theories
