Q

cornea

A
  • first thinng light comes across
transparent film in front of eyeball
    keeps dust from entering
keeps goo inside eyeball from coming out

Q

pupil

A
  • hole in the front of the eye that allows light to come through
  • can become wider to allow more light in (dark environment) or narrower to allow less light in (bright environment)
  • does this through iris

Q

lens

A
  • once light gets through the pupil
  • blob of transparent material that can either stretch or be more thick and round to focus light onto retina

Q

ciliary muscles

A
  • lens is attached by the ligaments to the ciliary muscles
  • can contract which stretches the lens out long and thin or relax leading the lens to return to thicker blob shape
  • focuses light into retina of the eye

Q

main part of eyeball

A
  • transparent goo made up of water, proteins, etc
  • gives eyeball its frigidity
  • allows light to pass through to get to retina

Q

retina

A
  • where all the light detecting cells are
  • also has neurons and nerve cells that process and transmit information to the brain

Q

optic nerve

A
  • where all the neurons that carry information from the light detecting cells in the retina to the brain
  • bunch up and leave eyeball to the brain

Q

visual pathways

A
  • info from the right side of space is processed in the left hemisphere and vice versa
  • made possible by optic chiasm
  • AP travel along optic nerve out of the eyeball and onward to the brain to be processed
  • goes to the Lateral Geniculate Nucleus (LGN)
(part of thalamus that deals with visual information) (small amt of processing occurs)
  • goes to primary visual cortex
    1. more visual processing takes place

Q

lateralisation of processing

A
  • some tasks are preferentially performed in the left or right hemisphere of the brain
  • facial processing is preferentially in the right hemisphere of the brain
