Definition of PID
A
An infection of the upper female genital tract including the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries and adjacent pelvic structures.

Risk factors of PID
A
- sexually active women and younger than 25 years old
- history of sexually transmitted infection (STI), PID, bacterial vaginosis
- Multiple sexual partners
- Sex without a condom
- Sexual partners with STDs

Clinical manifestations of PID
A
- Fever
- lower abd/ back pain
- Vomiting (peritonitis)
- Diarrhoea (pelvic abscess)
- Foul smelling vaginal dischage
- DIstended and tender at the lower abdomen
- Dysuria (burning, tingling, or stinging of the urethra and meatus associated with voiding. )
- Dyspareunia (genital pain associated with sexual intercourse)
- Metrorrhagia or menorrhagia (endometritis)

A
- fbc, esr
- blood and urine c/s
- c-reactive protien
- vaginal swab c/s
- ultrasounds (U/S) and Ct scan of pelvis

A
- pelvic abscess
- pelvic adhesions (scar tissues formation)
- chronic pelvic pain
- peritonitis
- infertility
- bacteremia
- strictures of the fallopian tubes
- infertility
- ectopic pregnancy

- at leats two broad spectrum antibiotics combination
- intravenous fluids
