What was the military affairs commission?
It was a 12 man commission that has the final say on all decisions relating to the PLA, including senior appointments, troop deployment and arms spending.
What was did they participate in during 1950-53?
The Korean War.
How was the PLA reformed between 1950-53?
New military academies were built and allowed a constant stream of well trained men to fight. These men also had been indoctrinated in the ideology of the Communist Party.
How much did the 1955 Conscription Law change the PLA? How did this benefit the CCP?
It was necessary to reduce the size of the PLA to cut costs and get farmers back on land.
How did the PLA help China’s economic development?
Officer’s dependents were compelled to work on co-operative farms. Work teams of PLA soldiers contributed to a week’s free labour a year. Every fifty men were commanded to raise at least one pig.
What was the ‘Learn from the PLA’ campaign? When was it launched? Who was Lei Fang?
The learn from the PLA campaign instructed the people to learn from the revolutionary and personal attributes - the soldiers. It was launched in 1963. Lei Fang was a PLA soldier that was used to show a model citizen.
