Q

what is the difference between a biome and the biosphere?

A

A biosphere is thin space between the lithosphere and the atmosphere, where life occupies. Where as a biome is the large regions in the biosphere, with it’s own climate, and species

Q

describe were forest biomes are found and why

A

Forrest biomes are found in areas of low pressure and high rainfall at the boundary between cells, because there is high rainfall so plant growth is more efficient

Q

explain how altitude affects ecosystems

A

altitude, means that these a lower temperature and higher precipitation. in the area at the foot of the mountain is rain forest and as you increase in high, it turns into shrubs and mountain forests then tundra and glaciers

Q

what dose a chimate graph show?

A

This Graph shows the between precipitation and temperature within the months of the year. the bars of the graphs show the change in precipitation across the year and the line represents the average temperature across the year.

Q

explain the difference between provisioning and regulating services.

A

provisional sevices are products obtaind from the ecosystem e.g. nuts and fish
regulating services keep the area/ecosystem healthy by contolin carbon dioxide levels and regulate the flow of water, that regulate the hole ecosystem.

Q

how to the Efi people depend on the ecosystem for their lifestyle

A

the Efi people depend upon the ecosystem, to provide every thing in there life’s from the wood and leaves needed to make the houses, to the monkey and fish they eat, they use plants and wild honey to make traditional medicines.

Q

what dose slash and burn mean

A

slash and burn farming is when famers clean small areas of forest by cutting and burning. the ash form burning adds nurturance to the soil,. after 5-6 years, the farmer leaves as the soil becomes infertile so they move to a new area

Q

how will deforestation affect the amount of carbon in the atmosphere and why?

A

more carbon dioxide can end up in the atmosphere if humans destroys biomes though deforestation so biomes can absorb less air if these trees are burned because this realises their stored carbon. these actions increases the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere which leads to more global warming.

Q

explain the nutrient cycle

A

the nutrient cycle is when dead plants and animals litter the Forrest floor and decompose introduce the nurturance back to the soil. Then as plants grow the take in the nuturance and the cycle continues

Q

explain the importance of the biosphere to the water cycle

A

biomes, especially forests are an important part of the hydrological cycle. If we destroy a forests biome, this can have serious effects on the water cylce

Q

how can increesed use of resorces affect biomes

A

to gather resources such as mining would require deforestation to gather

17
Q

explain Malthus theory

A

population would increase geometrically and food supply would increase arithmetically. in this way population would be cut due to a lack of food supply.

18
Q

how is boserup’s theory different to Malthus?

A

Malthus is a pessimistic view and Boserup’s is a optimistic view, as it says that as population increases so would food supply.

19
Q

what is meant by the term ‘natural check’

A

when a population increases to the land of food supply would be a decline in population due to disease and drought

20
Q

how might the quality of resources be affected in the future.

A

A crisis might occur because the quality of remaining resources becomes low rather than the quantity becoming small:
- rivers and lakes could be so polluted that their water is unsuitable
- soils may become so eroded and infertile that few crops can be grown
- when oil and gas run out, we may turn to burning dirty, polluting coal.
