Q

Reasons for using population pyramids:

A

The shape of the population pyramid can give us more information about an area’s population.
The pyramids show a % of male population on the left and a % of female population on the right.
It provides us with information about the birth and death rates and the life expectancy.
The population pyramid identifies how many dependents there are, the two groups of dependents is the young dependents (ages below 15) and elderly dependents (ages over 65.)
Dependents rely more on the economically on a country for economic support.
Many developing countries has a high number of young dependents, when you look at, the pyramid it will be wider at the bottom and the higher the age will it decrease to fewer people.
Developed countries has a growing number of elderly dependents, where the pyramid will show having straight sides or a barrel shape. The pyramid will also be much taller.
