What is the NHS?
The NHS is a state/tax funded universal commissioner and major provider of healthcare in the UK
When did NHS start?
on 4th July 1948 after need of free healthcare post WWII
Who was founder of NHS?
William Beveridge investigated UK welfare and Aneurin Bevan was founder of NHS which first was in Trafford general in Lancashire
How much tax is used for healthcare?
£1 in every £5 of taxes, is used for NHS (DoH gets money from public funds/taxes)
Who is the commissioner for primary care in England?
NHS England
how many NHS regional teams are there?
5 (London, midlands and east, north, south east and south west)
What are CCGs?
They are clinically-led statutory NHS bodies responsible for the planning and commissioning of health care services for their local area. They have control over the prescribing budgets
What are CSUs?
commissioning support units - provide IT, business and management support and are paid for commercial service
(have no model structure)
Who are clinical senates?
team of HCPs sharing clinical knowledge to inform service commissioning and design - 12 in England
What are LPNs?
local professional networks: provide clinical input to local commissioning decisions
there are pharmacy, dentistry and optometrist LPNs
What is the LPC?
local pharmaceutical committee: represent all NHS pharmacy contractors in a defined locality
What is the CQC?
care quality commission: independent regulator of health and social care in England
what is healthwatch England?
independent consumer champion that gathers and represents the publics views the NHS
who is in the CCG governing body?
one nurse, one doctor and 2 lay persons

vanguards
group of people leading the way in a new development/idea
provide personalised health services
there are 5 different types of vanguard sites, all taking the lead on development of a new care model
what are the 5 different types of vanguard sites?
PACs - integrating primary and acute care systems
MCPs - multi speciality community providers (moving specialist care from hospitals to community)
Enhanced health in care homes
Urgent and emergency vanguards - reduce pressure on A&E
acute care collabs - linking hospitals together to reduce variation in care
