Who created the PEN personality theory?
German born psychologist Hans Eysenck.
The PEN model states that our personality is directly linked to 3 personality traits. What were these?
P: Psychoticism/Self-Control
E: Extraversion/Introversion
N: Neuroticism/Stability
What are traits?
A trait is a stable feature of someone’s personality that leads them to behave in a particular way. ‘Trait Theories’ try to describe personality by mainly using common traits.
Describe characteristics of Psychotocisim:
Individuals with high psychoticism tend to have difficulty dealing with reality.
Describe characteristics of Extroversion and Introversion.
‘Extraverts’ tend to be outgoing and enjoy socialising, while ‘Introverts’ tend to be quiet and reserved.
Describe characteristics of Neuroticism:
Individuals with high Neuroticism tend to be less emotionally stable and can easily become upset or emotional.
