Pelvis MOI Flashcards
Origin of psoas major
Bodies and transverse processes of the lumbar vertebrae.
Insertion of psoas major
Lesser trochanter
Actions of psoas major
Flex the hip and potentially laterally rotate the hip. Flex the trunk, anteriorly tilt the pelvis and assists to unilaterally side bend the lumbar spine.
Innervation of psoas major
Lumbar plexus
Origin of biceps femoris
Ischial tuberosity (long head) and lateral lip of the linea aspera (short head)
Insertion of biceps femoris
Head of the fibula
Actions of the biceps femoris
Flex and laterally rotate the flexed knee. The long head also extends and laterally rotates the hip and posteriorly tilts the pelvis.
Innervation of the biceps femoris
Sciatic nerve. The tibial branch for the long head and the fibular branch for the short head.
Piriformis origin
Anterior surface of the sacrum
Piriformis insertion
Superior aspect of the greater trochanter
Piriformis actions
Laterally rotate the hip and abduct the hip when the hip is already flexed.
Piriformis innervation
Sacral plexus
Tensor fasciae latae origin
Iliac crest, just posterior to the ASIS
Tensor fasciae latae insertion
Iliotibial tract
Tensor fasciae latae innervation
Superior gluteal nerve
Tensor fasciae latae actions
Flex, medially rotate and abduct the hip.
Rectus femoris origin
ASIS
Rectus femoris insertion
Tibial tuberosity via the patella and patellar ligament
Rectus femoris actions
Extend the knee and flex the hip
