Pelvis and hip joint Flashcards
3 joints if pelvic girdle
2 sacroiliac joints
pubic symphysis
what is the innominate bone?
the hip bone
what fuses to form the aceabulum?
the pubis, ischium and ilium
stability of the hip joint provided by:
acetabular anatomy
fibrous capsule
ligaments - ileofemoral, pubofemoral, ischiofemoral
crescent shaped articular surface on pelvic girdle
lunate surface
it is deficient inferiorly - what is this called?
acetabular notch
what crosses the acetabular notch?
the transverse acetabular ligament
what is the acetabular labrum?
a rim/lip of cartilage
deepens the articular surface
the articular capsule is strong and dense - name the two parts of it
proximal - encircles rim of acetabulum
distal - attaches to femoral neck at the intertrochanteric line and greater trochanter
how do the ligaments work?
- spiral round hip joint
- taut when hip is extended
- pull the femoral head into the acetabulum
- improves stability
iliofemoral features
covers hip joint superiorly and anteriorly
strongest ligament
prevents hyperextension of hip during standing
pubofemoral features
covers hip joint inferiorly and anteriorly
prevents excessive abduction
ischiofemoral features
covers hip joint posteriorly
weakest ligament
pubic rami fracture most likely caused by
lateral high impact
posterior disclocation cause
impact when hip is flexed, internally rotated, adducted = seating position
