sacroiliac joint pain
=inflammation bon one/ both sacroiliac joints
caused by traumatic injury, arthritis, pregnancy, infection
40-55YOA
risks- trauma, pregnancy, repetitive stress, sports, spinal injury
symptoms-pain in buttocks/ lower back, can also affect groin, legs and feet, aggravated by prolonged standing, bearing weight on one leg, stair climbing, running and taking large strides
prognosis- appears suddenly and usually heals within a few days or weeks. mobilisation and stabilisation
osteoitis pubis
=inflammation around centre of pelvis. caused by sports injury due to overuse of hip and leg muscles
30-50 YOA
risks- athletes that play sports
symptoms- pain in front of pelvis, pain that radiates to the groin, lower abdomen or inner thighs, one sided pain, may increase with activities, clicking sounds, limping, weakness while bending/ kicking
prognosis- 2-3 months to recover. NSAIDs, stretches, strengthening exercises
iliopsoas bursitis
=inflammation of bursa beneath iliopsoas muscle. caused by repetitive motions, overuse of joints, tendons and muscles, arthritis
any age
risks- athletes, people with tight hip flexors
symptoms- pain in front of hips, pain radiating down thighs, may have pain in buttocks, stiffness/ tightness, discomfort when walking, exercising etc
prognosis- will go away with rest and treatment
piriformis syndrome
spasming of the piriformis causing buttock pain
caused by injury, swelling, muscle pasms and scar tissue
common in 60 YOA
risks- female, prolonged sitting, direct trauma, anatomical variation, overuse
symptoms- pain/ numbness in butt, hip or upper leg, sciatic pain (piriformis pressure on it)
prognosis- will go away in a few days or weeks with rest and treatment
ischiogluteal bursitis
=inflammation of bursa between ischial tuberosity and gluteus maximus muscle
caused by repetition, overuse and arthritis
40-60YOA
risks- sitting for long periods on hard surfaces, direct trauma, hamstring muscle tendon
symptoms- tenderness in upper thigh/ lower buttock, swelling in lowerbuttock/ hip area, pain when stretching hip/ buttock, pain worsens when sitting, inability to extend hip, radiating pain through leg
prognosis- will usually resolve without major medical intervention
