Pelvic fractures Flashcards

1
Q

Name the different classification system for pelvis fractures

A

Bucholz - based on the bone that is fractures
Letournel and Judent - based on site of injury
Young and Burgess - based on mechanism of injury (AP compression)
Tile - based on severity of instability
Muller as for TIle

Q

In AO classification what are TYPE A fractures

A

Fractures that has a stable and intact pelvic ring

Fractures are avulsion (1), Innominate bone fractures (2) and trasverse sacral fractures (type 3)

In AO classification what are Type B fractures?

A

Type B1: Open book fractures - through anterior SIJ , or sacral fracture

Q

In AO classification what are TYPE C fractures?

A

Unstable, complete posterior disruption, allows rotation of half of pelvis, allows vertical displacement. Cannont walk on this fracture.
Posterior fracture and pubis too
(Iliac wing, or SIJ or sacrum

Q

Are Pelvis fractures ever simple?

A

No, usually to fracture the pelvis it occurs due to massive trauma such as a car crash, they usually come in an ambulance with may ther injuries and major bleeding. FIrst need to stablise the patients and control bleeding (Haemostasis)

Q

Explain part of the pelvic ring fracture fixation

A

They use a percutaneous intramedullary scre fixation
Run a fine wire along the path
the run a hollow screw over the wire

Q

WHat are some precautions post Pelvis fracture surgery?

A

WBS, Ligament damage as well as fracture, blood pressure, haemoglobin, continence
